Kokomo’s girls basketball team had a sluggish start in its season
opener Friday night at Memorial Gym. Noblesville made it pay. The Millers
used a 14-0 run in the first quarter to take control of the game and went
on to beat the Lady Kats by that same margin, 43-29. Noblesville beat Indianapolis
Tech 56-22 on Tuesday and carried the momentum into Friday’s game. “Noblesville
has a very good group and they’re well coached,” Kokomo coach Jason Snyder
said. “Just like last year, they came out in the first quarter against
us and looked like a team that had played before.” Last year, Noblesville
held an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and ended up beating
Kokomo 37-31.
In Friday’s game, the Millers used hot shooting to put the Lady Kats in an early hole. Cassidy Cain and Kayleigh Herron combined for four 3-pointers during a 14-0 run that gave the Millers a 19-4 lead at the close of the quarter. The Millers maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. They led 27-9 at halftime and 35-17 after three quarters. The Kats scrapped to the end, but their cold shooting prevented a comeback. The Kats finished 9 of 44 (20.5 percent) from the field. Snyder saw some positives. “I’m proud of the way we continued to battle,” he said. “We had 11 offensive rebounds in the second half where we had just one in the first half. We were more aggressive. … In the first half, we were down eight [overall] rebounds and we ended up winning the rebound battle by six. “Our defense was much better from the second quarter on. We allowed only eight points in each quarter after the first one, but down 19-4 in the first quarter is really tough. I have to figure out a way to have us a little sharper early in the game. We can’t get that far behind.” Cain finished with 18 points to lead the Millers. She made 4 of 5 attempts from 3-land. The Millers shot 8 of 20 from deep as a team. Jordan Johnson led the Kats with eight points and seven boards. Snyder noted Johnson played hard. Also, Snyder praised guard Arienne Beard for taking care of the ball and Kendra Ryker for her energy. “Every day, we’re going to continue to get better,” Snyder said. “This was a learning experience.” Kokomo visits Northwestern tonight. “We know each other well,” he said. “They have a very good team and they have a great freshman class, just like Noblesville has. It will be a great challenge.” The final Score for tonight was Noblesville 43 Kokomo 29 |

Saturday night, the Lady Kats turned around and faced county rival Northwestern on the road. Kokomo looked more comfortable offensively Saturday night, executing their offense and putting pressure on the Tiger perimeter players, which led to early fast break points. Early in the second quarter however, the Lady Kats ran into serious foul trouble which forced a lot of players to step up and receive early varsity experience. The game was close throughout, but Kokomo got cold from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. We shot 42%, including six missed free throws in a row, and the Lady Tigers held onto a 44-40 victory. Kokomo is 0 wins--2 losses so far this season. |

The Kokomo Lady Wildkats took their game to Logansport to play the Berries and they just did not have the firepwer to win this game. Our ladies were able to hit only three 3 pointer out of 12 attempted. Logan did have better luck hitting 8 of 19 attempts. Kokomo lost the rebound battle 36 to 19, and they fouled 18 times to logansport's 16. Kokomo had 11 turnovers and Logan had 11. The scores at the quarter stops were 14 to 6; 28 to 19 at half time and 50 to 29 at end of 3rd quarter and the final was 59 to 42 with Logansport ahead the whole game. This was the 3rd loss with no wins for our Ladies and we need to take a good lok at what we may be doing wrong and correct it. We need to listen to the coaches and show them that we can and will win the games. We will take a good look at what the next games shows us and then play to win. |

The Lady Kats hit the road again Tuesday night, this time in Lafayette
to face the Harrison Raiders. The game was back and forth through the first
half and in the third quarter the Raiders senior leader Taylor Ringen hit
3 threes to push the Harrison lead to seven at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Kats continued to fight and the Kokomo seniors stepped up in the
fourth quarter with Arienne Beard hitting back-to-back jump shots to start
the fourth and Lisa Hopkins asserted herself inside to grab the lead with
four minutes left in the game. Kokomo was able to extend its lead down
the stretch with good post play and solid free throw shooting to take the
36-31 victory on the road. Lisa Hopkins led the team with 10 points and
11 rebounds. Beard finished with nine points, three rebounds, three assists,
and two steals while only committing one turnover. Anastacia Kirby added
eight points and seven rebounds, while Stacia Fletcher added seven rebounds
as well. Kokomo's 15 offensive rebounds and seven steals led to the Kats
extra opportunities at the basket, which was the difference in the game.
The Lady Kats showed off their stingy defense again only allowing
two field goals inside the three point line. This was the first win for
our Ladies and just maybe this will get them going and great plays and
lots of desire will result in more wins.
Kokomo is 1 win & 3 losses so far this season. |
They were led by Cierra Tinder's 12 points and three steals. Great job by a group waiting in the wings. |

Muncie Central sent their Lady Bearcats to Kokomo in quest of knocking off Kokomo in what so far has been off season. But Kokomo had no intentions of letting that happen, as they took it right at Muncie and created a lot of turnovers by Muncie, and points for Kokomo. Kokomo worked hard with their defensive effort causing Muncie to never get set up in their game. Kokomo outscored Muncie 20 points in the second quarter and took a commanding lead at the half. In the 3rd quarter, Kokomo padded their lead and in the 4th quarter it was just how many points would Kokomo win by. Muncie shot only 20% from the field for the game and had 29 turnovers for the game. Beard finished the game with 11 points, 7 steals, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Johnson had 10 points, Hopkins had 9 points, and 6 rebounds , Kirby had 6 points and 7 rebounds, and the bench contributed 18 points and 20 rebounds. The scores at the stops 13 to 5 at the end of the 1st, 33 to 5 at the half, 46 to 11 at the 3rd, and the final was 58 to 21. |
The Junior Varsity kept their record clean by winning by the score of of 50 to 4. Muncie was never in the game. Scores at the 1st quarter was 18 to 2; 28 to 2 at the half;, 46 to 2 at the 3rd quarter mark and 50 to 4 for the final. |

Our LadyKats took their game to Tiger Arean to play the Peru Lady Tigers. This was a tight game until the 3rd quarter when Kokomo started their goodbyes to the Lady Tigers who were playing without one of their great players. The 1st quarter was tight and at the stop it was Kokomo and Peru tied with points each The 2nd quarter was about the same but Kokomo led at the halftime 19 to 16. Then in the 3rd, Kokomo started connecting while at the same time hold Peru to no points scored. Then in the final quarter both teams played about even with Kokomo on top 52 to 26 for the win. Kokomo attempted 15 from beyond the 3point line but only made 3 of them. Their shooting game from there was about as bad as I have ever seen. Kokomo outrebounded Peru 44 to 38. Kokomo committed 23 turnovers while Peru had 29. Kokomo had 18 fouls while Peru had 16. It was a win that pulled Kokomo to a 3 win, 3 loss season so far, but it wasn't pretty.

The Junior Varsity played a good solid game while Peru's Junior Varsity just was not in this game at all. Kokomo was led in scoring by Smith with 8 points. Walllace had 7 points as did Jones. Tinder and Fowler had 6 points each. |

A year ago, the Western girls basketball team snapped a 24-game losing streak to Kokomo. Tuesday night at Memorial Gym, the Lady Kats regained the upper hand. Kokomo jumped out early on Western, withstood two second-half Panther rallies, and put the game away from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter for a 60-52 win. “We’re proud of this win, and it was a great game to be a part of,” Kokomo coach Jason Snyder said. “This was an entertaining game between two county rivals, and we were fortunate that we got a couple more shots to drop than they did.” The Kats hit only one field goal over the final eight minutes but converted 11 of 16 from the charity stripe. Clinging to a 49-48 edge with 2:00 to play, Kokomo (4-3) knocked down 9 of 12 freebies down the stretch to pull away and knock off previously unbeaten Western (6-1). “We had a hard time handling their physicality,” Western coach Chris Keisling said. “Hats off to Kokomo. They shot the ball probably as well as they have all year. We knew it would be a tough game and we allowed them to get us out of our offense.” Western sharpshooter Nicole Rogers scored five quick points to open the game as the Panthers and Kats were tied at 5-5 three minutes into the first quarter. The Kats quickly strung together a 9-0 run to take a 14-5 lead. Anastacia Kirby, who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Kats, scored four points during the run. Kendra Ryker added a steal and lay-up and Jordan Johnson, who finished with a game-high 21 points, closed the spurt with a 3-pointer as Kokomo held an 18-11 advantage at the first stop. “Johnson showed great leadership,” Snyder said. “She knocked down some big shots and did an excellent job defensively.” Johnson drew the tough task of defending Rogers, and the Kats senior leader kept the Panthers star from getting many touches, let alone getting a shot off, for most of the first half. Rogers was 3 of 3 over the first two quarters for eight points. She finished with a team-high 19 for the game and needed to work for every single one of them. Following an evenly matched second quarter, Kokomo held a 29-21 advantage at the half. Johnson’s deuce to open the second half gave Kokomo its largest lead of the game, 31-21, but Western stormed back with a 12-0 run to briefly take the lead 33-31 on a Carley O’Neal hoop at 5:52. “We came out in the third quarter with the idea to be more disciplined and controlled on offense and that worked early,” Keisling said. “We were able to get back in it early in the second half and then, once again, they hit some big shots.” The Kats closed out the quarter on a 16-5 run to take a 47-38 lead heading into the final frame.Western made another run to open the fourth, stringing together a 10-2 spurt over the first 6:00 minutes to make it 49-48. Kirby hit 6 of 8 freebies over the final 2:00, Johnson added a pair of free throws, and Brayana Fowler scored the Kats only bucket of the quarter and added a freebie. Fowler came off the bench to score 10 points. “[Fowler] did a lot of good things for us [Tuesday]” Snyder said. “She also had four steals and gave us a nice boost when we needed it.” Jessica Givens, Carley O’Neal and Lauren Taylor all finished with eight points for Western. The scoring at the stops were Kokomo leadin 18 to 11. At the half it was Kokomo 29 Western 21, at the 3rd quarter it was Kokomo leading 47 to 38 and the final score of this game was Kokomo 60 Western 52

Huntington North came to Kokomo on this chilly December afternoon
with a record of no wins and 6 losses. So it seems to me that there should
not be any problem for our Lady Kats to add another win to their record
this year. But no one told the Lady Vikings that they should lose without
playing, so they came out with some fire intheir eyes and in their hearts
and gave Kokomo all they add and it looked like on this Saturday afternoon
they were going to garner their first win of the seaso. But our Lady Kats
finally got it in gear and took this game. Huntington deserves to win more
games this season because they know they can win. Give them time and results
will be better. The scoring at the stops were Kokomo 6, Huntington 2 at
the 1st quarter The score at the half was 12 to 10 in favor of the
Vikings and at the 3rd stop they led 24 to 22. Then in the final quarter
Kokomo finaly got it in gear and outscored Huntington 16 to 8 to win by
the score of Kokomo 38 Huntington 32. Kokomo attmted and made 1 of
15 shots from 3 point range while Huntington made 2 out of 14 attempts.
Kokomo out rebounded Huntington 36 to 34 and Kokomo had 9 turnovers to
Huntington's 15. Fouls were Kokomo with 16 and the Vikings had 14.

Kokomo’s girls basketball team entered Tuesday night’s contest with Carmel giving up a stingy 38.5 points per game, including a 32.4-ppg clip in its five-game win streak. It was the Greyhounds, though, that put on a defensive display in a 55-40 victory over the Wildkats at Memorial Gym. Carmel grabbed nine steals and helped create 13 Kokomo turnovers in the first half, leaving the beleaguered Kats with four field goals on 17 attempts, and staring at a 35-17 deficit at intermission. The Greyhounds, in contrast, committed nary a turnover in the first 16 minutes while hitting five 3-pointers. “I was concerned about chasing them because they have two very good guards — point guards, really,” Kokomo coach Jason Snyder said of Carmel’s backcourt duo of seniors Abby Dean and Blaire Langlois. “They broke us down early and got to the basket and got open looks. We gave up way too many open shoots, and they almost looked like they could do whatever they wanted. “This was a measuring stick, and this is the level of basketball we need to get to.” Dean and Langlois both grabbed three steals in the first half and scored 11 and 16, respectively, before the break. The Greyhounds (5-4) missed their first four field goal attempts, but a pair of treys from Langlois helped spark her team. Carmel finished the period on a 15-5 surge over the final five minutes, with Kokomo starter Anastacia Kirby on the bench with two fouls. Carmel then started the second period on a 15-4 run, aided by a trio of buckets by Dean, to help her team led by as much as 19 before the half. “Langlois and Dean played like they are capable,” Carmel coach Scott Bowen said. “They had a tough start at the beginning of the season, but they’ve been playing really good basketball, and they’re are a tough matchup. They have experience and can shoot it, and if they are going like this it makes us a lot better. It makes our other kids more confident, and they chip in where they can, and it ends in a 35-point half.” Stephanie Irwin’s trey from the top of the key put an exclamation point on Carmel’s 9-2 run to start the second half, where the Greyhounds led by as much as 26. The Wildkats (5-4) outscored Carmel 17-11 in the final stanza, led by Kirby’s seven points. Another bright spot for Kokomo came in the rebounding battle, which the Kats won 38-27. “We got better in the second half, but we need to be a bit sharper if we’re going to beat a team the caliber of Carmel,” Snyder said. “We forced 10 turnovers in the second half because we applied a little more pressure. That’s how we play. I thought we toughened up in the second half and played our defense.” Langlois finished with a game high 21 points, and tied for a game high with four steals with Dean, who scored 17 points and added a team-high five rebounds. Irwin hit three 3-pointers and added 11 points. The Greyhounds finished the night 12 for 23 from beyond the arc, compared to a 2-for-12 clip for Kokomo. Kirby paced Kokomo with 14 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Johnson added nine points and six boards, while Lisa Hopkins pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go with four points. |

Our LadyKats took their game to Marion to play the Lady Giants
and boy did they run into a buzzsaw by the name of Laura Friday who scored
17 of the teams 20 points and that made Kokomo go into a game of
catchup all the game. Marion started of with a 11 to 2 run and Kokomo
went into a full court press which meant that Marion would have someone
open most of the game. Kokomo had 23 turnovers which resulted into
20 points for Marion. Kokomo just could not get themselves into a game
where they could dictate to tempo of the game. Kokomo did get close by
the end of the 3rd quarter with a score of 30 to 25 but they had to resort
to fouling and that was all Friday neeed to keep her team on top. She had
25 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals/ Johnson led Kokomo with
15 points and 5 rebounds. Hopkins had 9 points and 5 rebounds and Ryker
finished with 8 points while Beard had 5 steals.

Jay County came to town tonight to take on our
Lady kats and our Ladies were ready for them as they came out strong and
hit the boards great and applied their defense to the extent that at the
1st quarter break, we were up by 10 points by the score of 16 to 6. Kirby
came out strong and she wasn't about to let anyone stop her as she played
on both ends of the floor. Johnson was guarded very closely and she had
a hard time scoring with the crowd around her. Ryker put in a great game
being all over the floor guarding and scoring. This was a game that they
intended to win and they did just that. The scores at the stops were 16
to 6, 26 to 12, 39 to 21, and the final was 52 to 37 all in favor of our
Lady Kats. Jay County who usuallly is good on shooting the 3 pointers were
only able to hit on 4 of 11 attempts. There were a lot of fouls called,
and many of them were bad calls as it seemed like the referees were whistle
happy all game. Kirby led all scorers with 20 points while Ryker had 14,
Fowler had 7 and Johnson had 5 points. Great game to win for our Ladies.
|
The Junior Varsity had a tough time going after
the 3rd quarter score of 16 to 11 in favor of Kokomo. In that 4th quarter
they seemed to just be in a trance as Jay County kept eating at the lead
finally winning the ballgame by the score of Jay County 23 Kokomo
17. Our JV squad needs some wake up call as they really should not have
lost this game. Oh well, we learn from our mistakes, so we will wait until
their next outing to see if that is true.

Our Lady Kats took their game to Carroll of Fort Wayne
and they did a great job of holding down Carroll while still having some
problems scoring on their end via the 3 pointers. Kokomo attempted 14 from
3 point land and missed all of them. carroll wasn't much better as they
made only 1 of 10 attempts. Kokomo needs someone who can light up the scoreboard
with shooting that 3 point shop, but right now it is just throw it up and
hope for it to go in. Johnson led Kokomo with 12 points while Kirby put
in 8 points, follwowed by Hopkins and Ryker with 5 points each. Rebounds
were about even in the game with Kokomo pulling down 35 and Carroll had
36 rebounds. Turnovers were about even too as Kokomo had 25 and Carroll
had 24. Fouls were the same as Kokomo had 10 fouls called against them
while Carroll had 11. All in all this was an even games between the two
teams. Scores at the stops were 9 to 5, 15 to 12, 23 to 15, and 33 to 27
all in favor of our kats.

Richmond was late getting to Kokomo to play our Lady Kats and really in the 1st half of this game they were a little late on movement of the ball but in the 2nd half, someone lit a fire under them and then the Richmond ladies took the ball right to the basket tinme and time again. They hit their free throws and they put on a great defense that had Kokomo looking around to see what was going on. Kokomo just had so much trouble getting the ball in and up the floor. Then at the end of this game the fans were a little disappointed in the outcome. The scores at the stops were 16 to 8 in favor of Kokomo, 28 to 22 at the half still Kokomo's way, 46 to 41 at the 3 quarter stop and 59 to 57 in favor of the Richmond Ladies. |

The Lady Kats dropped another home game Tuesday night.
Lafayette Jeff, back at full strength, took control of the game in the
second quarter and never looked back on their way to a 42-33 victory. The
Lady Bronchos outscored Kokomo 10-2 in the second quarter and then started
the third quarter with an 11-0 run to put the Bronchos up 18. The Lady
Kats fought back the rest of the way cutting the lead to six points with
2:45 left, but two costly offensive rebounds off missed free throws allowed
Lafayette Jeff to seal the game. Kirby played well, adding another
double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both were game highs. Johnson
had a bad night not being able to shoot that 3 pointer that has helped
the LadyKats to win, but she also had to hold down one of Jeff's best players.
Kokomo took only 2 attempts at the 3 pointer and could not connect. Kokomo
hit on 12 of 38 shots and made only 7 of 18 free throws. The scores at
the stops was 9 to 8 at the ist quarter stop with Kokomo leading. Then
at the half it was Jeff leading 18 to 11. The 3rd quarter mark it was 33
to 18 and at the end of the game it was 42 to 33 Jeff winning. The LadyKats
need some better shooting if they are to be able to climb out of the loss
column.

Kokomo’s girls basketball team used a 21-2 advantage
in second-chance points to whip New Castle 58-39 in a North Central Conference
game Friday night at Memorial Gym. The Lady Kats took eight offensive rebounds
in the first half to grab control of the game. They finished with a dozen.
“In practice, we always work on attacking the offensive rebounds. We do
drills and everything. It’s definitely a focus,” said junior forward Anastacia
Kirby, who took five offensive boards. The Kats’ good work on the offensive
glass complemented one of their best shooting performances of the season.
They shot 52 percent from the field overall and 80 percent from the free
throw line, well above their season marks. “This was one of our best games,”
Kirby said. “Everybody shared the ball, everybody played good on offense
and defense. This is building our confidence to go on to the end of the
season.” Kirby finished with a terrific all-around line of 11 points, 14
rebounds and four assists — all team highs. She led the Kats to a 33-17
advantage in total rebounds. Kirby is averaging 9 rebounds per game. She
just works so hard,” Kokomo coach Jason Snyder said. Kokomo (8-7, 3-3 in
NCC) snapped a two-game losing streak. “I am excited about getting back
in the win column [with a] good conference win,” Snyder said. “We had a
lot of fans here with the girls-boys doubleheader and I think they saw
a fun group — a group I love to coach every day.” New Castle held a 10-7
lead deep in the first quarter. Kokomo followed with a 21-3 run to take
control of the game. Kirby and Brayana Fowler ignited the run with three-point
plays off putbacks in the final 1:32 of the opening quarter. Fowler had
another hoop-and-harm putback to open the second quarter and Kirby and
Jordan Johnson followed with putbacks to give the Kats a 13-0 advantage
in second-chance points less than 11 minutes into the game. Kokomo went
into halftime with a 28-16 lead. Kirby had nine points and eight boards
in the half and Fowler came off the bench to score seven points and grab
three boards. “I thought Brayana Fowler really gave us a spark in the first
half,” Snyder said. New Castle opened the second half with a 7-2 run to
draw within seven, 30-23, but Kokomo quickly regained control. Jasmine
Love hit a 3-pointer and scored off an offensive rebound to put the Kats
up 41-28 with 2:35 left in the third quarter. The Kats kept a double-figure
lead the rest of the way. Kirby’s 11 points led a balanced Kat attack.
Arienne Beard followed with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point
range and five other players scored five or more points. Snyder pointed
to good ball and player movement as keys. “We’ve done a nice job against
man to man, but everybody has been zoning us because of our size so we’re
starting to get a little better feel of what we need to do for that,” he
said. Balanced scoring was key and will be key as people try to zone. We’re
going to need people that they leave open to step up in those gaps and
we did a much better job of that [Friday].”The scores at the stops were
13 to 13, 28 to 16 at the half, 47 to 33 and 58 to 39 at the buzzer, Both
teams made 4 of of 12 3 pointers. Kokomo outrebounded New Castle 33 to
17. New Castle had 14 turnovers while Kokomo had 16. New Castle was called
for 11 fouls while Kokomo had 14.

New Castle at Kokomo Men Wildkats
Kokomo — On more nights than not, D.J. Balentine
is going to lead Kokomo’s boys basketball team in scoring, and Friday night’s
65-56 win over New Castle at Memorial Gym was no different. The Evansville
recruit entered the night averaging a team-best 18.1 points per game, and
paced the Kats with 23 points. But, the remainder of the Kokomo mainstays
have unwavering confidence in their own abilities as well. Balentine spent
the last 4:36 of the first half on the bench with two fouls, and fellow
starters Tayler Persons, LaBradford Sebree and Jaylen Tinder scored all
12 of Kokomo’s second-quarter points to keep the Kats afloat. Kokomo took
a 24-23 lead into intermission, and Balentine broke out for 13 points in
the third quarter to help the Kats, who led by as much as 17 in the second
half, surge ahead for good and stay within striking distance in the North
Central Conference race. “Everyday in practice, we work on all the players
stepping up when maybe a guy like D.J. is in foul trouble, being guarded
really tight or maybe just having an off night,” said Sebree, who finished
with 11 points and six rebounds in the victory. “We have guys on this team
who can rise to the occasion and step up when it’s their time.” Kokomo
coach Brian McCauley lauded the defensive effort with Balentine a spectator
for the last half of the second quarter. Kokomo (10-3, 2-1 NCC) held the
Trojans to a 3-for-8 performance from the floor and no offensive rebounds
in the period. For the night, Kokomo held a 37-23 rebounding advantage,
including a 13-6 edge on the offensive glass. “Our guys did a great job
of rebounding and defending pretty well when D.J. was on the bench,” McCauley
said. “ Tayler had an excellent second quarter with six points, and Tinder
got some offensive boards there. Those guys really stepped up offensively.
The second quarter, statistics-wise, was our best quarter defensively.”
Kokomo raced to a 7-0 lead through the first two minutes of the contest,
but New Castle (9-2, 0-2 NCC) finished the period on a 13-5 run to pull
ahead by one through eight minutes. The Kats responded with an 8-2 run
to start the second period to go up 20-15 before Balentine was whistled
for his second foul. A pair of buckets from Steven Bennett, including a
3-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer, pulled the Trojans to
within one at the half. Balentine hit a trio of jumpers, including a pair
of deep 3s, to spark Kokomo’s 10-0 surge through the first four minutes
of the third period. New Castle had no answer this time. Senior post Kyle
Goolsby was saddled with his fourth foul at the 4:56 mark, and a trio of
putbacks for the Kats exacerbated New Castle’s 2-for-4 performance from
the field through the first five minutes of the stanza. Erik Bowen’s putback
at the 2:28 mark put Kokomo up 42-31, and the Trojans got no closer than
seven the rest of the way. “We had a couple turnovers, then our defensive
transition was poor and we gave up some second-chance points. When you
pile all those things together, we just aren’t a good enough team yet to
[overcome] that,” New Castle coach Steve Bennett said of the third quarter
slump. “… We have to learn to make plays defensively blocking out, and
our big man [Goolsby] has to stay out of foul trouble.” Steven Bennett
entered the night averaging 17.7 points per game and finished with a game-high
24 points. Kokomo chased him for most of the night, not giving him many
open looks. He entered the night shooting 45.2 percent from the field,
but was held to an 8-for-26 performance (30.8 percent) Friday, including
6 for 21 (28.6) from downtown. Jordan Richardson added 18 for the Trojans.
Persons added 10 points and seven boards for the Kats, sharing team-high
rebounding honors with Armon Bridgeforth, and Bowen added nine points and
six rebounds off the bench.

Kokomo took a trip to McCutcheon to take on
the Lady Mavericks who is rated #9 in class 4A basketball ratings. Kokomo
hung in their most of the 1st quarter in what seemed like it was going
to be a low score ballgame. But when the 2nd quarter started , so did the
Mavs. and they started going down as the slow games just did not work for
our Ladies. McCutcheon used a run of 7 points to round out the 1st half,
leaving our Kats in a deeper hole at by the score of 23 to 11. The 3rd
quarter was about even but McCutcheon added a few more points to the lead
closing the 3rd quarter by the score of 42 to 26. Then in the 4th, McCutcheon
started off with a 11 point run and it was too late for Kokomo to come
back. Johnson had 10 points, all scored in the 1st half and Kirby
had 12 points and 12 rebounds .Lisa Hopkins was able to add 5 points but
it just wasn't enough as McCutcheon took this game without any problems.
Kokomo made 2 shots from beyond the arc while the Mavs were able to get
8 made. Kokomo outrebounded McCutcheon by the count of 32 to 25. Kokomo
made 8 fouls and 19 turnovers while McCutcheon had 4 fouls and 12 turnovers.

the 2nd quarter to build a big lead of 35 to 14 at the half. Coach was

Our Lady Kats took their game to Anderson to
play the Lady Tribe and boy did they get a wake up call. Our ladies played
a good 1st half but sort of went flat in the 3rd quarter as Anderson pulled
away What was a 29 to 25
lead for Anderson turned into a 42 to 32 lead starting the final quarter
of play. Kokomo never led in this game since scoring the 1st points of
the game. Anderson used great defensive pressure and Kokomo just couldn't
handle it enough to get back into the ballgame. Kokomo did get close in
the 2nd quarter bring the game within reach at halftime. Kirby led the
Kats with a double double finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lisa
Hopkins pulled down 11 rebounds for the game. The scores at the stops were
17 to 13 at the 1st stop, 29 to 25 at the half, 42 to 32 at the 3rd stop
and the final score was 58 to 45. Kokomo had 43 rebounds while Anderson
had 27. Kokomo had 27 turnovers while Anderson had 10. Kokomo had 16 fouls
and Anderson had 19. Kokomo shot twice from downtown and missed both of
them. Anderson hit on 8 of 27 shots from beyond the arc.
The final score tonight was Anderson 58 Kokomo 45. |

Well the Lady Kats are 9 & 9 so far for the season but North Cental made the trip north to Memorial Gym to test
our Ladies and boy did they do a job on us. North Central used their offence along with second chances on the
offensive side. We just culd not get in gear on this night as we made offensive mistakes and we did not rebound
well enough and North Central used that against us. North Central had a 10 to 2 lead right there in the 1st quarter
but Kokomo climbed back in and got within 2 points. The 2nd quarter did not help us as North Central kept the lead
and added some to it. Kirby played like she has for several weeks, pulling down rebounds and scoring points. It just
wasn't a great night of basketball from either team even though North Central had some extra hieght to work with.
In my opinion, they won't last long in the tourney. Scores at the stops were 10 to 4, 15 to 10, 31 to 19, and
38 to 25 for the final score. North Central shot 26 times from the arc and hit only 4. Kokomo shot 8 times from
the arc and mised all of them. The rebounds were won by North centra with 42 compared to Kokomo geting 32. On
turnovers NC had 13 and Kokomo had 20. On fouls NC had 8 and Kokomo had 14. So we will see if our Ladies can get
back in gear and take the battle to Westfield.

Kokomo had 20 rebounds and Westfield had 27. Kokomo had 10 fouls and Westfield had 10 also. Kokomo commited 16 turnovers and Westfield had 18.
