THE KOKOMO LADYKATS SCHEDULE FOR 2006-2007
AND
THE RESULTS OF GAMES PLAYED

November 10, 2006
7:30 pm
Kokomo versus Noblesville
{away}

Junior Varsity score was Kokomo 45 Noblesville 29
Varsity Game score was Noblesville 48 Kokomo 42

Our LadyKats took a trip to Noblesville, to play the Millers in the 1st game of the season, and came up a little cold, but with a spark igniting the engine, they almost pulled out a victory. Hit with foul trouble right at the start, and the result being that 2 starters had to sit on the bench, and with Basinger out with an injury, it was a relief that the 2 teams were tied at halftime 18 to 18. But then in the 3rd quarter, Noblesville came alive and our ladykats with missed freethrows and missing some easy shots were down 11 at end of that quarter. Then down by 14 points, the Ladykats seemed to light their fuse, and it was down to a 3 point deficit before the Millers were able to survive the scare. Sitting in a good seat and being able to see the whole floor, I saw a team that wouldn't give up, even though there seemed to be a lot of dead spots in the application of their shots and defense. I saw a group of ladies,that will this year, give us the fan, a lot of great games. Free-throws will be shot a lot in their practice and their trapping will get some polishing and the shot selection will get better. Coach Snyder got a good look under actual playing time, and he, with his assistants, will be able to shift their team in gear and we will see better play in games later in the season. You can see the fire and the desire that this group of young ladies have, and we can't judge a season by the play in the 1st game of the season. The LadyKats lost this one by six points but it could of been a win if the shots had went in. Ladies, you gave us a look at the team and your play. Keep working on your free-throws and shot selection and turn up the burners a little more and we will see ourselves on the top of the final scores. The fire is there and so is the desire so spark up your game a little more and have fun.

Kokomo Invite
{Home}

The Kokomo High School Classic was played today with the "Kokomo LadyKats" taking on "South Bend Adams", "Indianapolis Arlington Lady Knights" taking on "Huntington North Lady Vikings" in the morning season and then in the evening "The lady Kats" took on "Arlington" and "Hunington" taking on "South Bend Adams".

In the 1st game ,Our LadKats fell behind S. B. Adams and had some scoring problems along with some bad passing and were behind at the end of the 1st quarter by a score of 18 to 11. They came on in the 2nd quarter ,worked better with the ball and held Adams to just 5 points and led at the half by a score of 25 to 23. Both teams seemed to play even in the 3rd quarter and Kokomo led by one at the 3rd quarter break. In the 4th, our ladykats seem to have found their scoring and also some great ball trapping and although Adams knocked it down to a 1 point lead, our ladies spread out the offense, and held on for the victory by a score of 53 to 45. This was sort of a great wakeup call for our ladies as they looked a little more confortable on the home floor. Basinger did not play although she was dressed to play. Our free throw shooting was a lot better and so was our shot selection. As the season moves along, these ladies will improve and the scoring will get better. Add desire to play your best and they will be ok. Nice game to open up this Kokomo Classic with.

The LadyKat junior varsity won their game by a score of 40 to 33 over The Arlington Junior Varsity. Our Ladies on the reserve team are adapting well to their new coach and they are ready to step up if needed.

In the evening session, it was our Kokomo LadyKats taking on Arlington from Indianapolis, and Arlington just simply took it right to us, as it seemed that the Ladykats just could not get untracked enough to take hold and play like they are capable of doing. In a low scoring 1st quarter, Kokomo managed to get a 9 to 5 lead at the end of that quarter, but then in the 2nd , they fell behind trailing at the half 15 to 12. At the end of the 3rd quarter, they only got 1 point closer with the score of 28 to 24. Then in the final quarter, it looked bad for our Ladies as they had to shift into a new gear and apply some great defense and shot selection, along with the fans edging them on and they finally scored the go-ahead basket , plus some sticky trapping to win this game 32 to 31. This game was not one for the people who have bad hearts, as it was a tense time in the old gym tonight.

Kokomo versus Harrison {Home}
Our Ladies gave the fans of Kokomo a little of their playing ability in a home game against The Harrison raiders. The Junior varsity set the tone with a gutsy and great defensive game as they started out with a 11 point lead and then cruised to a 44 to 23 win. Then the varsity took the floor and before the game started there was good news that the Raiders' big girl who stands at 6ft. 2inches would not play. That's like spotting our team with 6 points and then work your rear off to make it amount to something. The Raiders all night seemed to be just a little short on their timing and ball handling as our ladies took advantage of just about every mistake and scored. Great play by The Drake Express and good play underneath the bankboard, and the great trapping brought this game to our LadyKats as they won by a score of 52 to 23. The Raiders will get a lot better and we might get a return match with them at tourney time. But then our ladies should be a lot better too as Coach Jason and his staff will fine-tune the engine, keep the sparkplug clean and the threads good as they put a team ready to play on the floor each night. Great night of LadyKat basketball. Thanks LadyKats

Kokomo versus Logansport {Home}
In the warm confines of Memorial Gym, on a cold day outside, the Berries of Logansport came calling to play our LadyKats in a NCC game. The Junior Varsity took the floor first and the game was full of slippery ball exchanges as this game had trouble getting off the floor. Kokomo took a 1st quarter lead at 13 to 8, and the 2nd quarter 19 to 14 at the half. Our Kats held their ground and at the end of the 3rd it was 30 to 18 in favor of our Kats. Not much scoring in the final quarter and the game ended with Kokomo as the victors 34 to 30. It seems like maybe the space of time between games and the cold air worked havoc on both teams. Anyway our JV ladies won and that is what counts.
The Varsity took the floor and the Logansport Berries have a young team that looks to go somewhere in the next few years. Also in this game it was those little mental mistakes that come about with too many days between games and if it wasn’t for the great defense that our ladies show along with “The Drake Express” doing her usual all over the floor trapping, this game would have been too close for comfort. The scoring was slow to come by and Logan led at the end of the 1st with a score of 12 to 10. The 2nd quarter was played with a little more scoring and great defense by our LadyKats with the halftime score being 27 to 19. The 3rd quarter was played about even with Kokomo still in the lead by a score of 40 to 35. The 4th seemed for a while to be all LadyKats but the Berries would not give up and they made some key plays and scored on some easy plays and our ladies held on to win the game by a score of 54 to 42. This was not a great fan based game as there were not many fans there . But the silly calls by the referees kept the game spirit by the rest of the fans at a high level. Keep winning LadyKats and keep up the great defense.

Kokomo versus Western {Away}

It was visit the Western Ladies time for our LadyKats, as the 2 teams played their annual rivalry. You can always count on having a great game when these 2 schools hookup as it seems to give the winners bragging rights for the year.Our Junior Varsity took their game by a score of 36 to 35. The fans on both sides were not disappointed as this game was a good one for 3 quarters. Our ladies got into some foul trouble resulting in bench time for the starters. But that is where the difference in this game was, as it allowed Coach Snyder to get all 11 players in the game resulting in our ladies not being too tired to get up and down the floor. Basinger is starting to get back into form since her surgery and she scored 11 points while rebounding well, and finding the open ladykat for the scores. The Drake express put in her usual great game scoring15 points, while making assists and steals. Cotten had one of her better games as she was great on both ends of the floor. Woodard came into the game and Western felt her presence right away, as while she was in the game , our ladies took over and controlled the pace. Playing a team like Western, you get a lot of good things to come about. The physical play is tough and you just can't let down any, as they will very quickly take over the game. This game should help them in their next game as our ladies will go to Huntington North to take on probaly the best team in the area. With the JV game being won by our ladykats by a score of 36 to 35 and the varsity game won by our ladies by a score of 47 to 38, it was winner take all. Look for western to do well this year as they play some tough teams like Kokomo this season. Look for Kokomo to get better as they play great defense and The Drake Express keeps rolling. Thanks LadyKats for another great night of Kokomo Lady WildKat basketball.

Kokomo versus Huntington North {Away}

Our LadyKats took their game on the road as they and Huntington North were to battle for a win in the NCC. In the Junior Varsity game our LadyKats won by a score of 33 to 29.Then it was time for the Varsity to play their game. The 1st quarter was sort of even, as Huntington played as a home team should, by maintaining some control of the game. Huntington set the pace as far as the offensive boards were their's to take and put back for a score. The 2nd quarter was mostly all Huntington as they went in at half-time with a score of 26 to 15. As is always the way to play LadyKat basketball, you don't count our ladies out as they made a great comeback, but just not enough to turn the score around. Behind by only 4 points , our ladies fought on but when the North team missed a shot, there was someone there to put it back in for a score. The final score was Huntington North 50 Kokomo 35. So it is back to the practice gym, hold your heads high, work hard, and get ready for the next game, as this loss in the long run, will help this team against their opponents, as you learn from losing just as much as when you win. This team has the people that can win games that will get them into shape for the tourneys later on. Thanks my ladies for playing your game for the fans.

Kokomo versus Carmel {Away}

Well, we really don't like to blame the weather for anything but our ladies took it on the chin when they entered the halls of Carmel. The night started out with our Junior Varsity taking on the chin by a score of 36 to 26. Then in the Varsity game, the Lady Greyhounds just simply took it to the ladies of Kokomo and even though they had a lot of errors handling the ball, our ladies had more. We only took about five shots in the first quarter, trying to limit Carmel to less chances of scoring. Carmel slapped a zone on us and scoring on the part of our LadyKats was very limited. Now it has to be noted that Carmel is highly ranked and they have some strong ladies on their team, but truthfully they didn't look it. Our LadyKats just had one of those days when nothing is going right, and all teams have that problem one in a while. Our ladies did have the Carmel lead down to five points but just could not deliver that punch to knock off that lead. Well, anyway the score was 51 to 37 in favor of Carmel, and our ladies don't have much time to lick their wounds as they have a Saturday afternoon game coming up and practice time will be sort of a healing with the free throws and the floor game getting a lot of attention this week. Note; Do not give up on this team because they are learning with each loss and we know that when the buzzer sounds in the next game , they will give us, the fans, a good game with a lot better play. This team has the guts to take it to the other team and each game is preparation for the tournament later. Go LadyKats.

Kokomo versus Marion {Home}
The Marion Lady Giants came calling to the confines of Memorial Gym to play our Lady Kats and some wanted to see how the Drake from Marion and the Drake Express from Kokomo would play each other. But here in Kokomo, it is team play that governs whether you win or you lose. Also it is a NCC game and that makes it a very important game for both. Kayla with her aggresive defense and offense is something to see, but also the play from the bench makes our team more aggressive as taking out one or two players and replacing them with non-starters makes no difference as the great team play continues. Our ladies used a great man to man defense to hold Marion to just 4 points in the 1st quarter as the quarter score was 17 to 4. Our game defense caused Marion to have 26 errors for the game. It was 31 to 15 at the half, and at the end of the game Kokomo won by a score of 61 to 33. The Junior Varsity won by a score of 35 to 21. Great games played by both teams. "GO LADYKATS."

December 20, 2006
7:30pm
Kokomo versus Peru {Home}

Peru High School sent their Lady Tigers to Kokomo at Memorial Gym, to take on our LadyKats, and they, without their best player, just did not have the power to beat Kokomo as our Junior Varsity LadyKats started the night out with a 33 to 20 victory. Then as the varsity game got underway, so did the "Drake Express" and the rest of our ladies as they slapped on the defense and caused many turnovers that led to points scored. Of couse when you play the type of defense that Kokomo does, you will foul a lot and Peru was in the bonus before the end of the first half. Kokomo led at the end of the 1st quarter by a score of 16 to 5, at the half 38 to 13 and the final score 77 to 38. Kokomo used 11 players and all of them worked hard at playing team ball. Kokomo will need that same type of game on Saturday, as they visit New Castle, which has a great team record for the year. So to the LadyKats, I say this: Play your game, pay attention to that booming voice from the bench, because Coach is trying to get as much out of you possible and each game will make you a better team ready to take on all comers. Thanks for a well-played game from the Day brothers.

1:30pm
Kokomo versus New Castle {Away}

The LadyKats traveled to New Castle, to take on the Lady Trojans in a NCC battle. The game started out slow, due to our LadyKats clamping on the defense to hold down New Castle who has been scoring a lot of points in most games. The defense worked, but since our ladies were behind, we had to play catch-up, and this game was close until with 2 and one half minutes remaining, and Kokomo having a chance to tie. But Becca missed a three pointer and from there on it was foul New Castle in order to get the ball back and New Castle made their free throws which led to Kokomo being defeated by a score of 43 to 30. Sort of puts a cloud over the overall picture, but really you have to admit that it could of been worse if we didn't have such a great defensive effort. Games like these are the ones we learn from most. If we can boost our offensive effort on the same games where we place the great defensive effort, this group of young ladies might be ready come tourney time. Coach is really talking it up from the bench attempting to get the most he can out of every player and the ladies are aware of it while on the floor. We can't get down just because of a loss, but we can adjust with learning as we go. LadyKats, we are still hanging onto your shirttails and we are not getting off because the ride isn't over, as we just have to add a little more octane to our power wagon. Thanks for a great game, from the fans of The Kokomo Lady Wildkats.

12:30pm
Kokomo Versus Richmond {Away}

Our Kokomo LadyKats took their game on the road to Richmond to play the Lady Red Devils and the long trip didn't slow down "The Drake Express" nor did it hamper our defensive play as Richmond's two top scorers were held in check by Cotton and Drake only allowing the both of them to a total of only 3 shots and no scoring. The defensive effort of our LadyKats is doing the job as they turned that effort into scores for our side. The Richmond ladies only had 13 points at halftime and it didn't get much better for Richmond as for the game they only scored 31 points. Richmond is slowly becoming a better ladies team but so are our LadyKats and the next 3 or 4 games will determine where and how far we will go in the state tourney. Kokomo LadyKat basketball is still alive and well with Coach Snyder and his assistants at the helm giving the team that great boost and to the fans with joy as they play each game as if it were steps to a state championship. As this writer was unable to be at the game Saturday, I didn't get the score of the Junior Varsity game. Those young ladies under the tutorship of Troy White are our varsity for next year and every game that they play will make them a better team member. And that is what Kokomo LadyKat basketball is all about. Team play and great team defense which will creat scores for us. And by the way the score of the Varsity game was Kokomo 47, Richmond 31.Thanks ladies for the games you have played and those you will play . You are much loved by we LadyKat supporters. Go Kokomo Lady Wildkats.

7:30pm
Kokomo versus Lafayette Jeff {Away}

Our LadyKats took their game to Jeff on this chilly night, and you might say that the welcome Jeff gave them was a little cool like it was outside. But good teams will find a way to warm up the situation and so Kokomo did. Jeff was ahead at the end of the 1st quarter by a score of 13 to 6 and at the half by the score of 30 to 20. Jeff seemed to be at the free throw line a little too much as in the 1st half they made 16 out of 18 free ones compared to Kokomo's 4 0f 11. Were the LadyKats out of it or would they bounce back? Coach Snyder took his team into the locker room and he did a great job of getting those LadyKats ready for the rest of the game. Our LadyKats played even keel with Jeff until with 4 minutes remaining, Ranae hit a jumpshot to put Kokomo ahead, and from there on, it was katy bar the door as with 12 seconds remaining in the game tied at 50 to 50, Jeff called time out with possesion of the ball. But here came "The Drake Express" who challanged the player with the ball, deflected the ball, headed down the floor, and dished out to Ackinson who hit a layup with only 3 seconds remaining. Jeff had no timeouts left and Kokomo won this one by the score of 52 to 50. With the Junior Varsity winning 36 to 22, it was a nice warm ride home for our Kokomo LadyKats, who next will take their game to The big city of Chicago where they will have their hands full playing 2 great teams . Thanks Ladies for a great night of basketball.

January 12, 2007
Chicagoland Classic {Away}

Well folks, it is January and it is LadyKat time to travel to Chicago to play in The McDonald Shootout against Warren, and usually we do fairly well in the 1st game, but tonight was a change in the way we played and scored, as it was a cold night of shooting and it was against a great team with height and skill. The half saw us with a 12 point defecit and it was catch up and score which just didn't happen. Our Ladies put up 7 straight points only to have Warren put back points with a 11 to 4 run and our ladies were just out of gas as they only shot 24% for the game. We could go with negative thoughts about how we played and not being able to score, but there is a good side from a game like this. You learn from it. You take the negatives and you find out how to turn them into positives in the games left to play this year. Games like this can get a team ready for our state tourney. Players can get tough from the bruising outcome of this game and heal in the rest of the season. No, we don't like to lose but we can use that loss to make us a better team. Hey LadyKats, your fans are backing you up in the 2nd game here in Chicago and we will be with you when you get back. By the way the score was Warren 49 Kokomo 30.
GO KOKOMO LADYKATS.

January 13, 2007
Chicagoland Classic {Away}

The ladies were still in Chicago for the 2nd day, and it was a new day, new game and new opponent for them. After getting a night's rest, they were ready to take on Loyola Academy, and going home with no victories was not in their plans, as they started the play, falling behind 10-2. Then after making a 12 to 0 run, and ending the 1st half with a 11 to 3 run, they were ahead by 8 points. The 3 pointers were falling into the basket and there was great play off the bench. And it sure helped when they were able to hold Loyola's high scorer to just 7 points. And you might say the "The Drake Express" was well again as this team of great ladies played their hearts out showing the fans that went to Chicago to watch them, that they had learned that just because you lose a game, you don't get down on yourself. You learn from it and you show your next opponent what you learned. Our ladies won this game by a score of 57 to 41. Folks, this is one good team that will continue to get better, and they will play as hard as they can with Coach Snyder pushing them as far as he can. So, winning one of two in Chicago is something to be proud of and come the next home game, I hope the gym is full of thankfull fans who love the way that The Kokomo Lady Wildkats play the game. Uncle Ray and Uncle Rut does. GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus McCutcheon {Home}

It was chilly outside, with a mist that meant that moisture was in the air and snow possible in the near future. But inside Mememorial Gym, the fans gathered to cheer on our Kokomo Lady Wildkats in their game against the McCutcheon Lady Mavericks. The night started out with our Junior Varsity winning over the Maverick JVs by a score of 45 to 39. Kokomo jumped off to a 20 to 11 1st quarter lead , only to have the Mavs taking a run of it's own. The game stayed within range of where either side could win but the final had our JVs winning by a score of 45 to 39.

In the varsity game , our ladies took off right away with a good run and then the Mavs would take over for a run of it's own. Kokomo led at the 1st quarter 17 to 12 and at the half 29 to 25. It looked like Kokomo was in good control of this contest and coming out after halftime, the fans were ready for the Ladykats to put the game away but it just wasn't to be, as the coach of the Mavs directed his lady Mavs to go into a matchup zone which slows down any chance of penetration to the basket. The good looks at the basket was just not there and our ladies were limited to just 14 shots and that just will not win a game most of the time. This game was decided at the free throw line with McCuteon making 2 free throws with 2 seconds remaining after our ladies missed a one and one that would of given us the lead. But folks, that is the reason that you have to play the game to get a win. It just does not come to you, you have to go get it. On this night with it cold outside, the air suddenly became chilly inside. So, it is go back to the practice sessions, work on the free throws, work on how to attack the zone, practice the penetration, and how to kick it out to the open team member, because we will see this same team in the sectional and that is win or go home. Come on Lady Wildkats, you can do it because the fans know you can. One bad night does not mean you can't win, it only means that more practice is in store. GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus Muncie Central {Away}

This was Saturday, & our LadyKats took off to Muncie to play the Lady Bearcats in a NCC game. Fresh off of a heartbreaking loss to McCutcheon on Thursday evening, our ladies were poised to show that a loss can help as well as a win can. After the Junior Varsity won their game against the Muncie Junior Varsity by a score of 40 to 23, our varsity took the floor with determination to show the world that Kokomo LadyKat basketball can be fun to watch. Muncie though, was thinking otherwise and they jumped off to a 9 to 2 lead. Our ladies then went on a 20 to 0 run in the 2nd quarter, due to great defense and great rebounding giving them a lead at halftime 28 to 16. In the 3rd quarter our ladies outscored Central 14 to 7 leading at the 3rd quarter mark by a score of 42 to 23. The final score saw our Lady Wildkats winning by the score of 58 to 27. So it looks to me like our ladies did learn from the loss Thursday night as they played great team ball, found the open man, great bench play and solid defense. This win puts us at a season mark of 11 to 6 with our NCC season at 4 to 2. Hey ladies keep up the great play, listen to the coaches because they can only make you better, and have fun representing us, the fans, as you play each game . "GO KOKOMO LADYKATS"

7:30pm
Kokomo versus Frankfort {Home}

Frankfort brought their "HotDogs" to Memorial Gym to take on our Lady Wildkats and they didn't come to just play ball, as they tried to upset the LadyKats on this cool night. Both teams struggled in the first quarter of the Junior Varsity game as it seemed like both teams were unsettled on what to do in order to put points on the board. Not too many points were scored but our lady junior varsity put another win on the record with a 31 to 23 score.
The varsity game started out about the same way that the jv game did as both teams just could not score much. The shots wouldn't fall for The LadyKats and Frankfort on their end commited a lot of turnovers.The 1st quarter score was only 5 to 4 in favor of the LadyKats and the 2nd quarter was a little better with Basinger getting gutsy with some hard fought shots as she scored 9 points making the score 21 to 16 at the half.. In the 3rd we saw the LadyKats take a 12 point lead before Frankfort came back with a run that cut the lead to 6 points at the 3rd quarter mark. In the 4th, the Kokomo lead went back up to a 12 point lead but the HotDogs would not give up as they climbed back to with in 6 points before time ran out. Kokomo playing with out their starter Kayla Drake, who was out for the 2nd game, found some leadership from several other players as Courtney Smith and Basinger turned up their game with tough ball handling and great offensive rebounding. Final score was in favor of our LadyKats by a score of 46 to 40. A lot was learned from this game in that our LadyKats know that if a player is down and not playing, it is the turn for someone else to take charge as they did tonight. Great game by The LADYKATS tonight.

Kokomo versus Anderson {Home}

After the Junior Varsity won their game by a score of 37 to 29, it was time to see what we would do against the Varsity. Anderson, ranked 9th in the state, brought their ranking and their size to Memorial Gym, to take on our ladies, who in previous years, would bounce them completely back to Anderson and in doing so, would dominate the NCC. But this year, there are teams in the NCC who are taking their look at the winning of that conference. Anderson is big, they are fast and they are young. But our ladies played Anderson pretty tight for most of the game tied at 15 all at the 1st quarter mark . At the half Kokomo lead 35 to 33, and at the 3rd quarter mark, it was Anderson leading by a score of 54 to 51. Our ladies had foul trouble early, and that sort of played a big part in the loss today. But the bench players did pretty good coming in and getting the job done. The final score of this game saw Anderson as the winner by a score of 63 to 56.

{Now here is something that this writer does not do much, and that is to second guess the referees, but in this game the referees were very consistant of calling some of the worst calls that this writer has ever seen. There were calls that were whistled prior to any contact, and the "head fakes" fooled the refs so bad that they thought it was a travel. This poor job of refereing should be looked at by the heads to see the poor job performed}

But lets get back to what this report is about and that is "Lady WildKat Basketball", and you have to be proud of these ladies as they give you their all while on the floor, as well as being good examples in the community. This writer is proud to give you this report each game and hopefully we will still be doing it for many years. We have four seniors who played their last home game in Memorial Gym, and they did good. Many times a team is guaged by the number of wins they have instead of the way they played the game. Many times we look at a loss as a defeat and it really isn't that. You learn from losing as well as when you win. The character of a good team is one to be proud of and "The Day Brothers" are proud of this group of young ladies and we wish the seniors more success in the years ahead as they make their transition into the new world as great contributors to the city of Kokomo and the country we live in. Great job "LadyKats and let's win one more this season and then all we can in the tourney. Thanks Jason and your assisitants for the great job you have done with this group and all those that are coming through the system to play their game as a KOKOMO LADY WILDKAT. "GO RED AND BLUE"

Kokomo versus North Central {Away}

Well, it is a darn shame when we can't find out a score of a ballgame on the night it is played. The LadyKats played their final regular season game at North Central and this writer could not attend because of sickness in the family. So we go to the tv and catch the scores and there was no mention of that game what-so-ever. Having been with the wife who is pretty sick, I did not get to listen on the radio and cheer on my ladies. So all I can tell you is that we lost the North Central game by the score of 50 to 34. So I will take up this space with my thoughts about our LadyKats. You won't find anywhere, the support that this group of ladies get from the fans who follow them every game whether at home or on the road. You won't find a tougher schedule than the one that our ladies play each year. They play some of the best in the state and you won't find losing seasons in their resume. This writer is one big fan of Lady Kat Basketball here in the state of Indiana and as one season ends, I can't wait until the next season starts. Now our ladies have a record of great accomplishments in the seasons and in the tourneys and the record speaks for itself. The Kokomo Lady Wildkats will play in the Harrison Sectional and will meet Marion and hopefully will win a game at a time in route to the Sectional Championship. As all knows the tourney is played each year to cpme up with a state winner and we here in Kokomo are hoping for the best for our ladies. This writer will not be able to make it this year but my heart is with them all the way. So Jason, the ball is in your court, the ladies are ready, and those die-hard fans who are there each game are in the stands with cheers galore, hoping for the glory of THE KOKOMO LADY WILDKATS to bloom into victory. GO LADYKATS.

SECTIONALS

Sectional time for our Kokomo Lady Wildkats is here and as the saying goes, it's win or go home. In the 1st game of the night McCutcheon won their game over Lafayette & will meet the winner of the Kokomo_Marion game, on Friday night. Time for Kokomo to take the floor and begin their quest for the sectional title and the opportunity to play in the next step. Kokomo took an early lead in the 1st quarter 15 to 0 and suddenly Marion woke up to the fact that points scored is the only way to win and so they started putting the points up there but Kokomo still was able to finish the 1st quarter 15 to 1. In the 2nd , it was Kokomo maintaining their lead & finishing at the 3rd quarter mark with a score of 36 to 25. Marion started playing their game in the 4th quarter and they got as close as 46 to 43 before Kokomo decided that they had better handle the ball more steady and work the ball for a good shot. Marion had to foul Kokomo in order to get the ball back and Kokomo was able to put the game away by hitting the free-throws. The final score was 53 to 45 and Kokomo advances to the next round against McCutcheon Friday evening. Kokomo had some good scoring from Cotton and Drake along with good ball handling by Smith-Powell, Basinger & Walters. Zunick came strong off the bench as did Ackison, Kuhn, & Woodard. The bench was very important in this game tonight and it will get a workout in the next round. Coach has his players ready and we should see a good game Friday. I must note right here that Marion has some young blood coming up and next year they should be a big contender for the NCC and in the state too. So we say to our LadyKats that tonight you did good but Friday you have to go out there and fight your way to the final round of the sectional. There are no second chances as you have to win to stay in the run in our state tournament. GO KOKOMO LADY WILDKATS.

It is night 2 of this Harrison Sectional and our LadyKats are taking on a very good McCutcheon team that prides itself on steady play and hard offense in all of their games. The night started out with a slow point total, as both were close ending the 1st quarter 11 to 10 end favor of the Mavs. The 2nd quarter was a rough one for the Ladykats as they couldn't hit from outside and couldn't go inside. McCutcheon ran a solid defense not letting our ladies to penetrate and so we had to rely on the outside game which at this time was not falling in. The Mavericks led at the half 23 to 14 and it didn't look good for our ladies and time for Coach Jason to take over during halftime. Here is where I make my comment about our LadyKat basketball program here in Kokomo. It doesn't matter how far down you are in the score, if you believe, you can make it back and man, whatever Coach Snyder said at halftime , it came out with our ladies and the defense stepped up, the offense went in to attack the basket and some threes started falling. 8 straight points and our ladies were back in the saddle again. The defense was outstanding as it has been the focal point this season as you can score off the mistakes the other team makes. The desire that this team has is top grade and the team concept is great. You play as a team , you find the open player and you place yourself in a position to rebound. At the end of the 3rd quarter the game was knotted up at 31 all and the game was up for grabs. In the final quarter it was our defense that excelled as with the Mavericks ahead by 1 point, and 43 seconds remaining, Kokomo forced 3 turnovers while scoring a free throw to tie the game. Defense forced another error and Kokomo had the ball with 9 seconds left. Kokomo called time and Coach set up the play. McCutcheon guarded against Basinger and Drake and Cotton took the ball right at the goal and scored with 3 seconds left. Coach put in Woodard to guard the player throwing the ball in and she had to throw it high thus allowing us to intercept and it was Kokomo taking this win by the score of 39 to 37. Kokomo moves on to play the winner of the Logansport -Harrison Game.

Logansport defeated Harrison to advance against Kokomo Saturday night.

Another cold night at the Harrison sectional both inside and out. The weather outside seem to creep inside and ice over the efforts of our LadyKats who were on the verge of winning that sectional. Cold shooting and a great number of fouls caught our ladies with a blast of realization that it was not to be for them to win this game on this night. It seemed like every time we went to the goal, the lid was shut. It seem like everytime we tried to apply our defense a foul was called. It was a night of not being able to really show the world what our ladies are really about. But then we have to realize that the things going wrong with our game was happening to Logansport also. Not until the 2nd half did Logan appear in the game. Our ladies led at the 1st quarter mark 9 to 4 and at the half 21 to 15. But less than 2 minutes in the game, Logan awoke and the game was tied at 21 to 21. From there on it seemed like whoever was on the foul line at the end of the game would be the winner. Kokomo did have a 3 point lead with 5 minutes left but then the goal got smaller on our end of the floor. Logansport took the championship home winning the game 48 to 43. Thus ends the season for our LadyKats who will concentrate on next year and get better. The season in a nutshell was a good one for 1st year Jason Snyder and what he has learned this year will be a benefit to those young ladies who want to continue the legacy of being a Kokomo Lady Wildkat. Four seniors played their last game as Wildkats and they go on to continue their education and their destiny in life. Thanks to a great group of Ladies for allowing us to witness your play on the court. Thanks Jason and your assistants, for all the hard work you do to maintain the history of one of the best girls program in the state. And so ends this writers look at The Kokomo Lady WildKats for the season 2006-2007. I am ready for next season.   This section is for the four ladies that are leaving The Lady WildKat program and will graduate this year, destined to carve their way into the world of tomorrow. They leave a legacy for other girls who want to represent Kokomo High School in girls sports. We will miss them and we will miss the way they played the game. Some will go on to participate in other programs and some will enter the world of life as they make their mark in history. It has been a pleasure for us to witness the transformation of togetherness portrayed out there on the floor of Memorial Gym. May each of them know that we have enjoyed watching them play as well as growing up into good looking ladies who did what they could to bring joy to the fans, the coaching staff and the faculty of Kokomo High School. May you always live in our memories as the Fab4. Thanks Ladies from Uncle Ray & Uncle Rut for all the fun we had watching you. May you go on in life and do what you want to to get the top of the mountain in that life.
