THE SEASON & HOW IT WAS PLAYED.

NOVEMBER 3, 2005
Scrimmage at Marion

In the pre-season scrimmage at Marion the LadyKats jumped on Marion and looked pretty impressive. The LadyKats used their long range shooting for most of the evening and when the Lady Giants came out on the shooters, then our Lady Kats hurt them inside as well. Nice tune-up for when they start the regular season in the next game at Harrison. Harrison has a very good team coming back and that game should be a dandy.

Kokomo Versus Harrison at Harrison
Kokomo 63, Lafayette Harrison 25

The season has started, and the LadyKats are out to play, as they took thier game to Laf. Harrison to take on the Lady Raiders.The game started out tight as they were a little laxed on defense but closing the 2nd quarter with a 13 to 2 run gave our ladies some breathing room at the half. In the 3rd quarter our ladies outscored the Lady Raiders 19 to 3 and that secured the opening win for our LadyKats. The LadyKats used thier rebounding as a means of getting fast breaks. Good scoring great rebounding and strong defense, along with team play was the answer to a big win over an opponent who always give our team the most they have.Next game is Noblesville taking on our ladies at Memorial Gym in our first home game. Lets get on the band wagon and cheer on our ladies as they give you and me some great fun watching them play.Give us a holler.

Kokomo versus Noblesville -{Home}
Kokomo 59 Noblesville 32

The Millers from Noblesville came to town to play our Ladykats and this game, before the home crowd, started out both great and bad as we lost Little Mac with an ankle injury after about 2 minutes were played. Little Mac{Audrey McDonald} could miss about a month or so. The rest of the LadyKats did thier thing with some great defense and some darn good shooting as they ended the 1st quarter with a 28 to 8 lead. The rest of this game was a look that opponents will see this year as our LadyKats used thier defensive ability, thier shooting skill, and thier team play. We won this game with a 59 to 32 score. The next game is with Gary West on Saturday 11-19-2005 and you need to get out and show these ladies you back them 100%. See you there. GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus Gary West -{Home}
Kokomo 48----Gary West 28

Our LadyKats extended a welcome to the school that knocked them out of the tourney last year, and this started out like a chess game where both teams took a very good look at what the other was trying to do on offense. Gary started out trying thier 3 point shots and they didn't fall. Kokomo tried to go inside and it didn't work too well. This game was close in the 1st half as halftime was 15 to 11 in favor of our ladies. Coach took them to the locker room and gave them his thoughts of what needed to be done and as the ladykats came back on the floor, you saw a determined group of players who would not let themselves be defeated. The 2nd half saw kokomo outscoring Gary by a score of 33 to 17 to salt this battle away. This was a game that was needed to get our ladies ready for the conference and the tourney. Although most of the team are experienced in how coach wants them to play, each game will add to that knowledge. Playing basketball is an ongoing learning process of how to outplay the other team. Once again this game was one that saw a united team effort by a group of young ladies wanting to win. Go my ladies as we take one game at a time. Learn and play and have fun doing it.We take on Anderson next saturday here at home, and there are still some bills to pay.

Kokomo versus Anderson-{Home}
Kokomo 61---Anderson 50

On this cold Saturday afternoon, it was time for Anderson to bring thier game to Kokomo, and to try and sting our ladies as they did last year. And as this game started and Kokomo went into a 2 / 3 zone, Anderson took thier time and set up thier game from the outside, and the result was a 15 to 5 lead for Anderson. But then with Whitney driving to the basket and the others setting up, our LadyKats went on a 17 to 0 run that really closed the door on a great start by the Lady Indians. Experience and desire combined with total team play was what Kokomo used to take Anderson down to defeat. It should be said that the Anderson girls over the past three years have been getting stronger and come tourney time, they will be tough to play. Kokomo took this game by a final score of 61 to 50 and it sure is fun to watch them play. Those who don't attend our LadyKat games are missing a great chance at fun on the hardwood. Kokomo takes on Huntington North next Saturday and it sure would be nice to see this city out for that game as Huntington always plays great basketball, and great fan support. See you at the game. GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus Huntington North-{Home}
Kokomo 61---Huntington North 50

  It was a cold night here in Kokomo, and we sat down in Memorial Gym to watch our LadyKats take on the Huntington North Lady Vikings. Huntington has always had a great basketball history and thier girls team has made some rumbles against our ladies but tonight as the game started after the junior varsity won thier game, you felt like maybe this year the game belonged to us as Huntington had a lot of young players . Well to start the game off, Huntington got the tip and they went into a delayed offense, and passed the ball on the outside until they felt like shooting and suddenly it was 6 to 0 in favor of the Lady Vikings. It took just a little while for our ladies to see that this game might be a low scoring one and they went the route of triple points, missing some but making enough to make this game our game, and at halftime it was 25 to 16. From there till the end of the game ,it was our ladies who dictated the game. Little Mac came out with her usual leadership game, Whit came with her desire, Kayla with her floorgame, Becca with her good looks at the basket, Olivia with her threes, as did Ashley off the bench, and a great game from the bench. Kokomo took this one by a score of 61 to 50. Great game by all. Kokomo takes on the Lady Panthers of Western High School in the next game on Dec. 6 at Memorial Gym. If you haven't seen the LadyKats yet, you can't lose by coming and cheering them on. GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus Western-{Home}
Kokomo 42---Western 31

Western High School, {my old alma mader} came to town to take on our Lady WildKats, and as this game started, and as Western committed many errors, the LadyKats took advantage, did some great shooting, and before you knew it, Kokomo had a 25 to 5 lead going into the 2nd half. But a funny thing happened in that 2nd half. Western finally found that confidence and the shooting eye and some great floor play . Kokomo sort of laid down a little and you can't do that against Western anytime. Western has been known for it's desire to play great ballgames in all sports and tonight they put that desire and toughness together and the fans on the northside of the gym woke up and saw that just maybe this night would be thiers. The Ladykats only scored 4 points in the 3rd quarter and this game became interesting to all. With our Ladies looking sort of bad and Western looking pretty good, the 2nd half of this game was the talk of the evening. Kokomo finally found themselves and with some breakaways finally going through the basket and some clutch free throws falling, our LadyKats finally put this one away by a score of 42 to 31. It wasn't pretty but then it was a game between two schools that I attended in my high school career and you take the hand dealt to you. Go LadyKats and you Western girls, let your desire continue to drive you. For the Kokomo fas, there is another good show coming to town Friday Dec. 9th with Marion bringing thier girls and boys to play a doubleheader with our girls and boys. Should be a night of great basketball for all.

Kokomo versus Carmel-{Home}
Carmel 49-----Kokomo 46

Well, another evening of LadyKat basketball was in store for us as the Carmel Lady Greyhounds brought thier new #1 rating into Memorial Gym. After the JV squad scored a good win over Carmel's JV, the air at the gym was full of great expectations that tonight we could show what we are made of by taking down Carmel in front of a large crowd. Well, this game started out with Carmel taking the game right to us and putting up the points while throwing some great defense to keep us from going inside. So it was up to us to try and shoot from the arc and the shots would not fall. After being down by 11 points, our ladies started attacking to cause turnovers and at halftime, it was 26 to 23 in favor of the Carmel squad. It got back to 10 point lead by Carmel before our "Little Mac" took charge and brought Kokomo within 1 point, but that was where the gas in the tank started breathing too hard and Carmel escaped with a 49 to 46 win. We hate to lose but come tournament time if these two squads should meet each other on the way to a state championship, it might be one heck of a difference as our LadyKats will know what to do to capture a win over Carmel. You learn from wins and you learn from losses. We know that our LadyKats have it in them to win the next time that these two teams meet. LadyKats, just remember that you have a lot of fans who still believe in you. Play your hearts out and play to win. You have already won our hearts and we back you 100%. GO KOKOMO LADY WILDKATS. Next game is Dec. 22 when Marion comes to town. We will be there and hope to see a large crowd.

Kokomo versus Marion-{Home}
Kokomo 56---Marion 35

Our LadyKats finally got to play the game with Marion, cancelled a few weeks ago, and having soothed thier wounds from the loss to Carmel, our ladies took it right at Marion. They had a great offense going with a greater defense, pressing Marion into mistakes, that converted over to points on the board, for our LadyKats. This was a game that showed how un-selfish this team is, as they were constantly looking for the open shooter when they had a good shot . Watching for the open player meant a better shot at the basket and our ladies were very effecient at doing that. Team play is the reason that this team does so well. The chemistry is there allowing one player to know where the other player is, and the scoring is because regardless who the other player is, she is in a better position to make that shot. That is called teamwork and our ladies do it well. Most of the time, writers when doing a game, will concentrate on giving one player the credit for the winning of the game. With our LadyKats it is a team effort for the complete game. I really enjoy watching this team play and they as a team deserve the fans' respect in the way that this game is played. Kokomo won this game by a score of 56 to 35. The next opponent will be New Castle next Wednesday evening. Go to the game and have fun watching a group of young ladies having fun playing thier game of basketball. "GO LADYKATS"

Kokomo versus New Castle-{Home}
Kokomo 60----New Castle 54

The ladies from New Castle came to town on this rainy mist filled evening with the intent of knocking our LadyKats off the top of the ladder in the NCC. Kokomo used some pretty good defense mixed with some great outside shooting to bring the New Castle gals back to reality as they led at the half by a score of 33 to 18 in favor of Kokomo. The game saw a lead by our ladies go to 56 to 42 with a little over 3 minutes remaining and then as most teams do, our ladies got a little too relaxed as they started missing some easy shots and New Castle started thier run with some great shots from thier shooters and all of a sudden that 14 point lead was down to 2 with the score 56 to 54. Our LadyKats hung on with a basket as time ran out on a New Castle team that is very good at what they do and they have some great under-classmen coming up that will wake up the others in the NCC. Kokomo played a great game against a team that deserves all the ranking they have, and come tourney time, they will turn some heads their way and they should go far in that tourney in the 3A class field. I can't say too much about how unselfish our gals are out there on the floor as Whit found some open players for scores and Little Mac did her usual as she also found open players instead of shooting the ball herself. Our ladies are to be commended for thier teamwork and togetherness out there on the floor. And one more thing to bring up. Can you believe those 2 buzzer shots from Kayla Drake from way out there . Boy, that woke up a lot of people that night to what fun they can have watching LadyKat basketball. Our Ladies now have 2 out of town games at Peru and Penn before coming back home to play Lafayette Jeff. Boy, do we have fun at the ballgames and you can too, so why not make it a date to be there at the games to bring out the best in our LadyKats. GO KOKOMO LADY WILDKATS.

Kokomo versus Peru at Peru
KOKOMO 71 PERU 32

It was a short ride to Peru tonight to take on the ladies of Peru in the 1st game of the new year and after taking the floor, our Ladykats took everything else as they took an early 18 to 0 lead before Peru woke up and started playing on their side of the court. Kokomo used some great shooting with assists being part of just about every 2 points scored. They used their defense to create turnovers by Peru and the end result was points on the scoreboard for Kokomo. Our Kayla Drake was very important in the Kat attack as she penetrated the point enough to draw the defense out and that opened the door for the rest of the team to put the ball in the basket. Being just a sophomore, she has a great sense of seeing where the open player is. Little Mac, Whit , Livy, and Becca, played their usual game and the bench came on great too. An all around game for all the team as they and the Junior Varsity came away with wins tonight. The next game is at Penn Saturday and then it will be a lot of games in a short span of time. All of this will get the ladies ready to play in the tournament. GO LADY KATS.

Kokomo versus Penn at Penn
Kokomo 44 Penn 27

The Kokomo Lady Wildkats took their game north, as they invaded Mishawaka Penn for a game of win or lose basketball, and as they have done in several games this year, they put the other team on notice that great defense and team effort will get the job done and they did it well as they ran the score up to 23 to 0 before Penn could get themselves some points. Although Kokomo went for several minutes in the middle quarters without scoring, Penn could not take advantage. Once again teamwork, looking for the open team member, and great defense is doing the job. Little Mac hit some great triples, Whit did her usual all around playing, Kayla taking care of setting up the play, Becca with her strength and good eye, Livie with her speed and great shot selection, and some great help from the bench was the name of the game as the LadyKats took this one by a score of 44 to 27.Our ladies come back home for a game at Memorial Gym with Lafayette Jeff before heading north to Chicago and the classic. How about coming Tuesday night Jan. 10 and give our Ladykats a great sendoff.
GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus Lafayette Jeff-{Home}
Kokomo 69 Lafayette Jeff 41

Jeff came to town with some great credentials with a 12 and 3 record and we expected a good test of our LadyKats tonight. But after a 4 to 4 score, our ladies took it among themselves to give this game everything it had and they did it. Helping out on defense, trying to set up traps, and just hungry for the ball, and combined with some very good shooting, our ladies took over this game and romped to a win. We saw steals, blocked shots, great free throw shooting and all-around desire along with some great outside three-pointers on this night. Boy, it is great to watch Whit take the ball to the basket. And Little Mac shooting the ball from way out is a sight to see. Becca with her defense and timely shooting, Kayla with her ball handling skills, Livy with her shot selection, Richardson coming in as the best sixth player in Indiana taking and making some good shots, and the players off the banch doing what they do well and that is blending in, make this team a fun one to watch, Great game by all and now it is Chicago next where we usually play some of the best teams outside Indiana. Go LadyKats and make us prouder if that is possible because this team grows on you and it sure is fun to watch them. Thanks ladies for giving us, the fans, your personal attention.

Chicagoland Classic in Chicago
Kokomo versus Benet Academy{Illinois}
Kokomo 36---Benet Academy{Illinois} 29

The wind was blowing, it was cooling off, and a 3 hour bus trip to Chicago might of worn a lot of teams and lessen their effect on the game of lady basketball but it didn't do any damage to our LadyKats as they went up there to play and to win and in this game it was a win. Of course it took Kokomo a little over half a quarter to get on the scoreboard and it was Little Mac who after missing her first 3 shots, went to her game as she led her team-mates to a victory. Defense once again and great bench play along with team desire was the name of the game as Benet went scoreless most of the second quarter. On this night when the offense was lagging, the defense was working our game. The kids were tired but this group of young ladies know how to play the game and they work as a team with all playing as one. You got to be proud of our LadyKats as in this game Kokomo took home the win with a score of 36 to 29. Next they play Willowbrook before heading back home to good old Indiana where basketball is our game.

January 14, 2006
Chicagoland Classic in Chicago
Kokomo versus Willowbrook{Illinois}
Kokomo 63---Willowbrook{Illinois} 26

The Kokomo LadyKats had one more thing to do, before heading back to the friendly confines of Kokomo, and that was to play The host team Willowbrook in this Chicago Classic. After getting behind 2 to 0, they lit up the gym with thier great play and scored 14 straight points and Willowbrook was left behind the rest of the night. Little Mac and Olivia did most of the damage with their 3 point shooting and with Whit doing her usual great job setting up screens, the scoring came easy. With a little over 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter , Coach Hall sent in the reserves and they did a great job of protecting the lead. The reserves played the rest of the game, and gained a lot of experience , which will prove a benefit when tourney time comes. As this fan has noted before, this team works as a team, is very unselfish, and they play the game just like it should be played. Little Mac is just a few points away from 1000 points in her career and that is saying a lot as she is unselfish with the ball, if she sees someone who has a better shot to take. What can you say about a great group of young ladies, who are representing their school and us the fans? Great job my ladies in Chicago, and now it is back to Indiana where basketball is king.Next game is against Logansport at Logansport on Jan 17. GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo versus Logansport at Logansport
Kokomo 78--Logansport 34

It was snowing outside and today was a great time to warm up the Logansport Gym, and did the lights come on. Our LadyKats took it right at the Logan ladies, and before Logansport scored their first basket, our LadyKats were up 17 to 0. Little Mac went over the 1000 point mark and once again there was the unselfish play of the rest of the players on the floor, that brought this game home to our ladies. Great play, great attitude, and team play, is what this group of ladies are and it makes this old man proud to be represented by these LadyKats. The LadyKats take their game to McCutcheon on Thursday night where they always find the host team tough to play, but I feel that they are ready for that type of team. Go Ladies and warm up the gym over there.

January 19, 2006
Kokomo versus McCutcheon at McCutcheon
Kokomo 49----McCutcheon 44

Kokomo, playing their 2nd game this week and 4th since Friday night, went to McCutcheon to play the Lady Mavericks, and they started the game off real quick with a 17 to 4 run. Most teams would of been down for the count after a run like that, but McCutcheon is a great team with a great amount of fans, and the Lady Mavericks kept chopping on the lead and came within reach of our LadyKats and it took some free throws at the end, which kept our ladies on the winning side of the score. Kokomo had balanced scoring from all this night ,and we might want to find out the status of Little Mac, who re-injured the finger she had broken earlier in the year. Great job put forth by our ladies, as they prepare for a Saturday home game against Muncie Central. Lets all get out there and cheer this team on. GO KOKOMO LADY WILDKATS.

January 21, 2006
Kokomo versus Muncie Central-{Home}
Kokomo 57 Muncie Central 29

It was a Saturday that a Kokomo sports fan dreams of , in that we get a chance to see our LadyKats play, then our Hoosiers playing Purdue, and then right back in the evening, to watch the boys play Tipton, who happens to have a family member as the JV coach. And also we got a chance to talk to Olivia Martin, who has one of the prettiest shots from the corner, and we let her know that we liked the way she plays. Just like all the others on this years team, Olivia is a modest young lady, who likes to shoot, but knows that team play brings out the wins. She did, in the game, hit two of those shots mentioned. Wow, what a day we had.
But this is about our Ladies, who were poised to play Muncie Central in a NCC game, with at least a share of the NCC Championship on the line. Muncie jumped in, and it looked like like they were out to ruin the day, but after falling behind 9 to 2, our ladies went on a scoring drive of 17 points, and it suddenly was 19 to 2, and this game was ready to be put on the books as a win.
But this team doesn't play that way, as they play hard, look for the open man, gives up a sure shot to pass to a player in a better position, and just tries to outplay the other team until the final horn sounds. Our ladies put this one in the books as a win and as at least a share of the NCC Crown.
Now as most of you know, this writer tries to stress team play and not individual play, but I think that it is time to give a few comments about the four seniors that after this year will go on to make their mark in time as individuals. Audrey McDonald, who I refer to as Little Mac, is an all around player who refuses to lose, and who will do her thing in college both as a player and as one who will make a deep mark in life . It is great to see her shoot and when she sees a player open, she passes off so that the scoreboard will lite up with points scored. She is always in the play whether it is outside or inside play. Whitney Farris, who I refer to as Whit, has about the best driving ability of any lady ball player I have watched and she too looks for someone who is in a better position to make the shot. And you can see that she enjoys playing the game. Lots of great spirt in that lady. Olivia Martin ,as I stated before has one of the best corner shots and she is among all the others when the ball comes off the board, and she can see far down the court for that player on the fast break. Ashley Richardson has to be about the best sixth man off the bench and as soon as she comes on the floor, you can feel the added momentom that helps to lite up the play, and what a great shooter she is too. Those four ladies will be missed next year, because of their dedication to the game. Now we need to mention 2 other players who happen to be starters on this team who will be back next year. Kayla Drake, who I refer to as "Scooter" is a great ball handler and as witnessed in the season, one who can shoot the long shot. She sets up the game well and she stays calm doing it. Rebekah Basinger, who I refer to as Becca, is a strong player, who not only shoots well, and rebounds well, but she also can play the defensive part of the game. Now all the others on the bench are learning a lot from those six players and boy it is going to be another great year, next year. We have so enjoyed doing this web site for them and we look to the remainder of this year as there are only 3 games left before it is tourney time. Kokomo plays at Frankfort on Wednesday night and at Richmond on Sat.afternoon before coming home to play North Central on the 31st of January. GO LADYKATS, and thanks for the memories.

January 25, 2006
Kokomo versus Frankfort at Frankfort
Kokomo 57 Frankfort 40

Kokomo LadyKats took their game to Frankfort to play The Ladydogs and they used some good shooting skills to pull this one onto the win side . Although our ladies had a lot of errors in handling the ball and the game tied at 17 all, they used a 10 to 0 run to close out the first half in our favor. Becca sat out the 4th quarter due to an ankle injury and the bench combo of Ashley and Katie took care of business for her. Whit had her usual game of finding the open player and was desisive in holding down the output of one of Frankforts top scorers. Whit seems to be able to reach in and pull out that needed spark to win the games. Little Mac does her usual job of knowing when to shoot and when to pass off. Kayla does a great job of setting the plays up, and Becca plays with the sharp mind knowing where everyone is when we have the ball. All in all we have a great group of ladies on the floor at all times and those on the bench ready to come in and play as if they had started the game. Thanks Ladies for another great night of Hoosier Basketball played the way it is supposed to be played. GO LADYKATS, AND WIN THE NEXT GAME AT RICHMOND AND BRING HOME THE NCC CHAMPIONSHIP OUTRIGHT

January 28, 2006
Kokomo versus Richmond at Richmond
Kokomo 43 -- Richmond 26

A long trip south, for a share of, or an outright NCC CHAMPIONSHIP, was the goal of this great group of Ladies from the great basketball city of Kokomo, Indiana. They went, they played and they won, and they did it in the same way that they have all year. The bench was ready for that day when one of the starters might need to stay out because of an injury. Becca was out because of an ankle injury, and so here comes probaly the best sixth lady in Indiana this year, Ashley Richardson. Ash, as I refer to call her , did a great job of filling that spot as she played the guard position as Little Mac moved to the power forward spot. Kokomo used a scoring run of 24 to 5 to open this game up and with great support from the bench and with the ladies playing as a team using defense and shooting skills, our LadyKats brought home the championship with a spotless 7---0 record. We play North Central next and then get ready for the tourney. Great job by a great group of young ladies called THE KOKOMO LADY WILDKATS.

January 31, 2006
Kokomo versus North Central-{Home}
North Central 49 Kokomo 43

On this Tuesday evening in front of the largest croud in Memorial Gym this year,our LadyKats took on the 2 time State Champs, North Central, and right off the bat, North Central showed why they could take a 3rd state championship as they, with good shots and a great trapping defense reeled off 13 points before Kokomo could even get on the board. Kokomo, because of the defense thrown at them committed 7 errors in 10 possessions. From that point on it was play catch up for Kokomo, and although North Central regained that 13 point lead again in this game, the fans knew that our Ladykats can't be counted out without a run themselves. But on this night, it would be a loss for our ladies who were playing without 2 of our starters due to sickness and an ankle injury. That meant that the bench had to come forth and play and they did ok with Ashley and Katie picking up most of the load. It should be noted here that since Jan. 4th up to and including tonight Jan. 31st which is 27 days, our ladies played 11 games and only lost this one tonight. That is saying a lot for this group of young ladies as to their teamwork and desire to play the game.I must say here that we the fans are very proud of what our LadyKats have done. What more can we ask of this group called "The Kokomo Lady Wildkats" who are representing us and the city of Kokomo. Ashley with her shooting skill, and her desire to play as a team member. Kayla with her guts to take the ball among the tall trees and then pass off to the open player who is set to shoot. Olivia with her shooting skill and her love for her fellow team-mates. Lille Mac with her knowledge of the game and her team concept of helping the others to get into position and who plays her heart out until the final buzzer. Whitney, who I believe is the best all around player who can drive to the bucket, find the open player who has a better shot and who shows her team spirit and her love for the game. Becca who screen, picks, rebounds, and who can shoot the long ball from the corner. Hey guys, I am proud of these ladies and this game tonight can only make us better and ready for the tourney which if played right could end up in a rematch of these 2 teams tonight,down in Indy.Thanks to our Junior Varsity coached by Jason Snyder, who finished up the season undefeated, and thanks to the Varsity coached by Charlie "Snake" Hall who will continue the season in the sectionals right here in Memorial Gym next week. Take a little time and go have fun watching these ladies play their game. Go LadyKats.

"IHSAA CLASS 4A LADIES SECTIONAL"

Kokomo 71 Harrison 35

Kokomo played in the 2nd game tonight, after Lafayette Jeff and McCutcheon Played in a shootout in which wasn't over until the final buzzer, in which Jeff won on a last second shot by a freshman. Kokomo took the floor next, and introduced Harrison to the floor, with a solid game played once again with teamwork, good defense, and a couple of no miss runs of seven baskets. This game gave the bench a chance to log in some very important minutes and get some sectional tourney time, and they performed very well. About half way in the 3rd quarter the starters gave way to the bench players, and they sat there on the bench watching the players we will see next year. The LadyKats won this one by the score of 71 to 36, and they will take on Lafayette Jeff on Friday night in their quest to win this years sectional. Only in Indiana does the basketball game takes front stage and what a show so far.

GO LADYKATS.

Kokomo 55--Lafayette Jeff 31

Kokomo's start against Jeff,sort of was a little slow as Jeff strapped on a sagging defense designed to keep the Kats from scoring by pressing four members of the Kokomo five but that left Kayla wide open for shots and even though she missed the first four shots,she never lost her cool and she finally connected and then hit 3 and that is where Jeff had to go to covering all of the LadyKats and the result of that was going from a 8 to 3 deficit, to a 24 to 16 advantage. Because of the LadyKats trapping defense, Jeff could only score 4 points in the 2nd quarter and 4 in the 3rd. Kokomo used the hot shooting of Little Mac, timely trees by Becca, great drives and great defense by Whit, good anticipation by Olivia and Kayla, knowing where to intercept passes, wonderful play by Ashley, Katie and the rest of the bench, and as always, great teamwork by a group that plays together at all times. We saw in this game how our LadyKats can react to a slow start and being behind and we saw great fan support for the play on the floor. Great game by the LadyKats who will play Logansport, who defeated Marion, Saturday night in the championship.

Kokomo versus Logansport
SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Kokomo 51 Logansport 32

Our LadyKats took it right to Logansport tonight, with all intentions of winning this sectional for the school, the fans, and the team coaches. They had a night of fun, and another one of the seniors took center stage as Whit put up a great game of shooting, rebounding, and steals, and with her team-mates finding her and feeding her the ball, she had the game of her career. That is what I and others find remarkable about this team. There is no member of that team who does not team ball. They pass up shots in order to get the ball to the player that has a better shot. This game tonight was really decided at the end of the 3rd quarter as our ladies had a 30 point advantage. The bench got a lot of playing time tonight as coach pulled his starters out, and inserted players in very regularly. The LadyKats go to play in the 2nd game at Huntington North, where they will play DeKalb, and that winner will play the winner of the Anderson, Huntington North game. It should be a great Regional with that calibur of teams there. Why not take a ride to the north east and watch and cheer our ladies on as they play in this 2006 touranment.

GO LADYKATS.
"IHSAA REGIONAL AT HUNTINGTON NORTH"
KOKOMO 56 DEKALB 42

After Huntington North won their game against Anderson, our ladies took the floor against Dekalb and they dominated the game throughout with great 3 point shooting, great driving to the basket, and great passing after penetrations. Little Mac had her shooting eye going and Whit doing a great defensive effort on her player, and the rest of the team played as though this was the final game as you could just see the desire and the team effort in this game that was won with heart and team effort. Great game by our LadyKats in their quest of a trip to Indy. Thanks Ladies, for a game well played. Now lets take on Huntington and get that next step to the final at Conseco.

KOKOMO 38 Huntington North 35

Well, in this game, both teams looked like they used all their steam in the earlier games and points seemed hard to get, as our ladies' shots seemed to hit the front of the rim and bounce off, and as Huntington racked up the rebounds , our ladies were only getting one look, and then it was run to the other end of the floor to play defense. The LadyKats played catchup almost the whole game, but they never lost that desire and their hearts took over in this one, as the shots started falling through and the defense was keeping Huntington within reach. About a little less than two minutes our ladies started closing the area of the floor and Whit took on the Vikings with her drives and free throws and 2 crucial free throws by Little Mac sealed this win for Kokomo, and now one more step before going to Indy lies ahead for us. Thanks Girls, for the heart that brought the regional championship home

"IHSAA SEMI-STATE AT PLYMOUTH"
S.B.Washington 60---Kokomo 58

Our ladies went north to the Plymouth Semi-State to take on the #1 rated S.B. Washington Panthers, and Kokomo showed everyone why it has been rated by most to win this year's State Championship. They held their own and took a 15 to 6 lead in the 1st quarter but Washington kept coming back with a run of 12 to 2 just before half-time. Washington used a trapping zone combined with a fast offense to put our ladies in a hole that most would never be able to climb out of. That is, everyone but our LadyKats who never give up no matter what the lead is. In the 3rd quarter it was 47 to 32 and kokomo had it down to 49 to 44 at the end of 3 quarters. With the same teamwork and desire that our ladies have showed all season, we got it down to a three pointer by Basinger to cut the lead to 2 and Little Mac was fouled on a missed 3 pointer and made 2 out of 3 free throws to knot the score at 59 all. That is we thought we had it tied but then the referees and the scorekeeper got together and changed the shot by Basinger to a 2 pointer. Well, to put all in a nutshell, this changed everything that coach had instructed his team to do but no time-outs remained to work out a better plan and after Washington hit one of two free throws , there just wasn't enough time to do anything else but fire from 30 feet and the ball bounced off the rim and this game was history for our LadyKats who gave it all and lost this game due to some terrible work by people who sat at the score-table and changed how we played the final minute of play. Our ladies did all they could and I can attest to everyone that this group of young ladies will go far in this world and will be remembered as one group who always felt they could go all the way and we are so proud of all of them. Thanks ladies for a great season of fun and dedication to the sport of basketball.

OUR SAUTE TO THE SENIORS AND COACH

In my 54 years of following the Kokomo Wildkats, I have sat in Memorial Gym, and watched a lot of good and great players of the game of basketball. Up until sickness kept me from doing so, we followed the Wildkats all over the state. My favorite coach in those early years was Joe Platt, who I respected both as a friend, teacher and coach. Back in those days, coach had his players on the floor to run, shoot and rebound. Basketball was a sport where you sat there and watched the skills of the players taught to them by Coach Platt, come forth to the thrill of the fans, and executed the way Coach wanted them to do.

This years Lady Wildkats remind me of those teams as they go out on the floor and play the game the way they were taught to do. I have to say that the four seniors this year played their hearts out as they have done in the previous three seasons. They are very unselfish, are team oriented, alert to all the actions on the floor, and they had fun while doing it. We have enjoyed watching from our seats there in the north section of section 5, and to able to say that basketball is very well with the girls' program and the legacy that these four seniors and this fine coach leave will help our program more. Again ,thanks to these four young ladies who represented you and I as well as the school and the city. We will miss you and if you are in the gym next year, come on up to our seats and say hello. Thanks Ladies for making this year one to remember. Go forth in your continued studies and make another mark in history.
